How we verify listings
Badges on this site describe what we checked and when - not a guarantee of workmanship. Here is exactly what each status means.
A licensed Virginia estimator should walk the property, measure the roof and leave a written quote - verify the DPOR licence before work starts.
What each status means
- Verified - we located the licence or insurance record ourselves and recorded the date we checked it.
- Reported, not verified - the company supplied the information and we have not yet confirmed it against an authoritative source.
- Not verified - we have not checked this item. Treat it as unconfirmed.
- Sample listing - an illustrative example published while the directory is being built. Not an endorsement, and excluded from search indexing.
What we check
- Contractor licence status and class in the Virginia DPOR public lookup
- Business entity registration and standing with the Virginia SCC
- A certificate of general liability and workers' compensation insurance, where supplied
- That the contact details reach the business and the service area is accurate
What we do not check
- Quality of workmanship on any specific job
- Pricing, availability or scheduling
- Whether a warranty will be honoured
- Subcontractor licensing and insurance on your particular project
How often we re-check
Verification is a point-in-time check. Every profile shows the date we last confirmed it. Licences lapse and insurance expires, so always confirm both yourself before you sign a contract.
Reporting a problem
Every contractor profile has a correction form. Use it for wrong details, a closed business, or a licence status that no longer matches. Complaints about work performed belong with the Virginia Board for Contractors and the Attorney General's consumer protection office.
