Autumn is the technical sweet spot
Moderate temperatures let asphalt shingles seal properly without the handling problems of peak heat, and the roof is finished before winter. It is also the busiest window, so book earlier than you think you need to.
Spring works, with a rain caveat
Temperatures are workable and crews are coming out of the slow season. The risk is scheduling: Virginia spring rain moves jobs around, and a tear-off cannot start on a day with storms forecast.
Summer is available but hot
Work still gets done, usually starting early and finishing in the early afternoon. Extreme deck temperatures are hard on crews and make shingles easier to scuff, so expect earlier start times and possibly a longer overall schedule.
Winter is possible, with conditions
Cold-weather installation is real work with real requirements: shingles need hand sealing in places, adhesives behave differently, and a frozen or wet deck stops the job. Crews are more available and schedules are more flexible, which suits an urgent replacement.
