Before the season
Work done in advance is done at normal prices with normal availability.
- Have the roof inspected and any loose material secured
- Clear gutters, valleys and downspouts
- Trim limbs overhanging the roof
- Photograph the roof and property in good condition for a baseline record
- Confirm your policy's wind and hurricane deductible
- Identify which contractors offer emergency tarping in your area
When a storm is forecast
Secure loose outdoor items that can become projectiles, move vehicles away from trees where possible, and follow guidance from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management and your local officials.
After the storm
Stay clear of downed lines and unstable structures. Document damage before any temporary repairs, arrange emergency mitigation if the building is open to the weather, and report the claim promptly.
Watch for post-storm solicitation
Out-of-area companies commonly canvass affected neighbourhoods after a named storm. Verify Virginia licensing, read any document before signing, and never accept an offer to waive your deductible.
